Delivering excellence: how JODA Freight orchestrated a complex two-day tank vessel operation for Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials
Delivering excellence: how JODA Freight orchestrated a complex two-day tank vessel operation for Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials
Kieron Talbot-Sykes, 06 November 2025
When Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials approached us with a challenging logistics request, we knew it would be a project that would test our expertise in heavy haulage and site coordination. The task? Transport seven tank vessels – the largest weighing 32 tonnes – from a deep sea port in southern England all the way up north, then manage the entire on-site unloading operation. It was the kind of project that gets our team excited – complex, demanding, and requiring every ounce of our experience.
The challenge ahead
This wasn’t just a straightforward transportation job. Moving seven tank vessels of varying weights across the length of the UK was only part of the equation. We also needed to coordinate crane operations, manage the on-site unloading activity, and ensure everything was completed safely and efficiently over a two-day window.
Each vessel required specialised equipment, meticulous planning, and flawless execution. But the weight and distance weren’t our only considerations. Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials takes health and safety incredibly seriously – and rightly so. Their site team had rigorous protocols in place, with extensive requirements for Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS).
We’d need to coordinate not just with Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials logistics manager, but also with their on-site team and the crane company, ensuring every question was answered and every concern addressed before operations began.
Planning makes perfect
Success in heavy haulage and site operations doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of careful planning, attention to detail, and experience. Our team began by conducting thorough route surveys, identifying the safest and most efficient path from south to north. We worked closely with port authorities and highway agencies to ensure we had all the necessary permissions and clearances.
But our role went beyond just transport. We organised the crane company for the on-site unloading operations and acted as the central point of coordination. Working closely with the crane company, we liaised on their RAMS documentation, ensuring it aligned perfectly with our own and met Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials stringent safety requirements.
Our comprehensive planning covered every aspect of the operation – from transport logistics to the choreography of the two-day on-site unloading schedule. We knew Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials team would have questions – lots of them – and we were ready. Our approach has always been that no question is too small when it comes to safety, and this project was no exception.
On-site management: bringing it all together
Once our deliveries arrived at site, our job was far from over. We managed the entire on-site unloading operation, coordinating between our drivers, the crane operators, and Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials site team. Over two intensive days, we orchestrated the careful positioning and unloading of all seven tank vessels.
This required constant communication, quick decision-making, and the ability to adapt to site conditions in real-time. Our team remained on-site throughout, ensuring that every lift was executed safely and that the operation stayed on schedule.
Keeping everyone in the loop
One thing we’ve learned over the years is that communication can make or break a logistics operation. From day one, we made sure Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials team knew exactly what was happening, when it was happening, and who to contact if they needed anything.
Throughout the transportation process and during the on-site operations, we provided regular updates. Where were the vessels? Were we on schedule? Any issues to report? Our clients never had to wonder or chase us for information – we kept them informed every step of the way. This communication extended to the crane company too, ensuring seamless coordination between all parties involved in the operation.
Our drivers: the real MVPs
Here’s something we’re particularly proud of: our drivers. These aren’t just people who know how to handle heavy vehicles – they’re professionals who understand that they represent JODA Freight every time they arrive on site.
For the Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials project, our drivers followed every site rule to the letter. They engaged professionally with the on-site team, remained patient and courteous throughout the two-day operation, and demonstrated exactly why we trust them with our most challenging assignments.
The result? A very happy client
When all seven tank vessels had been safely delivered and positioned on site after two days of intensive operations, we received feedback that made our entire team smile. Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials Logistics Manager said:
“I’d like to thank you for the excellent service provided from start to finish, especially dealing with the extensive questions from our site team around RAMS etc – we take site safety very seriously. Also thanks for keeping us updated throughout the process. Most importantly thank you to the drivers, who I have been told by the site team were professional throughout and followed all the various site rules and instructions.”
This is exactly the kind of feedback that reminds us why we do what we do. It’s not just about moving cargo from A to B – it’s about managing entire operations, coordinating multiple stakeholders, and delivering excellence consistently.
